About Juleen Buser

Dr. Buser’s clinical experience includes a range of setting and age groups. She has worked extensively with young adults in college settings.  She also has experience with adolescents in school settings and with adults in outpatient mental health clinics.

Dr. Buser is actively involved in professional organizations and higher education. Dr. Buser was elected as President of the International Association of Addiction and Offender Counselors, a division of the American Counseling Association. In addition, Dr. Buser teaches graduate counseling courses as an adjunct professor at Rider University.

Dr. Buser has published book chapters and articles on topics such as play therapy with children, the use of creativity in counseling, and diversity issues in mental health care. She has also presented at professional conferences on disordered eating.  She focused her doctoral research on bulimia among college age women.

Dr. Buser’s approach to therapy is collaborative, client-centered, and strengths-oriented.  She seeks to build an empathic, open, and accepting relationship with clients, where clients can feel both deeply supported and challenged to consider a fresh perspective. Dr. Buser trusts that clients have many innate strengths and resources, which often need to be re-awakened in overcoming struggles. Dr. Buser also employs narrative therapy methods. These methods are designed to help clients re-author parts of their life stories that have become restrictive, or an impediment to growth. In addition, cognitive and behavioral therapies are often useful for Dr. Buser in helping clients with a range of concerns, including anxiety and depression.
